After Rahul Dravid, this big responsibility will be handed over to VVS Laxman

  • Former India cricketer VVS Laxman to be NCA chief
  • Laxman was persuaded by Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah to become the chief
  • Had Dravid not talked about head coach, Laxman would have been made head coach

After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) persuaded Rahul Dravid to lead Team India, now former India legend VVS Laxman has also been roped in for a special responsibility. The post of head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru has fallen vacant after Rahul Dravid took over as the coach of Team India. And VVS Laxman has been persuaded by BCCI for this post. Although Laxman was not ready for the post earlier, but after talking to Sourav Ganguly, Laxman is said to have confirmed the position.

VVS Laxman will be the head of NCA

According to the Times of India, VVS Laxman will take over as the head of the NCA after Team India’s tour of South Africa this month. And for the tour, former Saurashtra batsman Sitanshu Kotak will be given the command of Team India. And if everything goes according to plan, VVS Laxman will head the NCA, India A and Under-19 teams.

A BCCI official told the Times of India that Laxman is ready for the matter. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah are happy to appoint another experienced player to take forward Rahul Dravid’s project at the NCA. There is a good understanding between Dravid and Laxman and the board wants a good synergy between Team India and NCA. Laxman’s work is being done on certain conditions. But he has come up with his own idea for NCA.

Similar to Dravid’s appointment, the board also called for applications for the post and conducted interviews as per the constitution. And the board also announced the bowling coach of NCA. The BCCI will have to expedite the process, as the Under-19 World Cup is about to begin in two months.

Laxman had a backup plan as Team India’s head coach

According to sources, when Laxman was offered by the BCCI two months ago, he turned it down. Laxman was the backup option of the board for the head coach of Team India. And Laxman was ready to become the head coach if Dravid did not take the responsibility of the head coach. But he was not ready to head the NCA.

A board official said Laxman’s family was not ready to shift to Bengaluru as he had to shift to Hyderabad. But after the IPL ended on October 15, Laxman was constantly being talked to Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah. The main place was the location. And now he will discuss this matter with Sunrisers Hyderabad, as he is the mentor of the team. At the same time, many cases including Laxman’s salary have been completed.
