New team announced for T20 series against New Zealand: Rohit as new captain, Hardik sacked

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma has been made the new captain of the Indian T20 cricket team for the T20 series against New Zealand. While Virat Kohli has been rested for the three-match series. The T20 series between India and New Zealand will start from November 17. Opener Lokesh Rahul has been made the vice-captain of the team.

Many new players have been offered to the team. Rituraj Gaikwad is the highest run-scorer in IPL-2021 and Harshal Patel is the highest wicket-taker. Venkatesh Iyer has also been included in the 16-man squad. Venkatesh Iyer is being seen as a replacement for all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Hardik Pandya cannot bowl due to injury, he is just playing better. His selection for the T20 World Cup was also questioned.

Hardik Pandya, who had a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup, has been dropped from the team. Rituraj Gaikwad played in the series against Sri Lanka. Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has also found a place in the team as expected while fast bowler Mohammad Siraj has also made it to the team.

Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar, named as reserve players in the T20 World Cup, have been included in the main team. The announcement of Rohit Sharma’s name as captain was just a formality. While Lokesh Rahul has been made the vice-captain. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and veteran bowler Mohammed Shami and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have been rested.
