Indian coach Nick Webb will also be released after the T20 World Cup. A senior BCCI official told PTI on Tuesday, “Rahul has formally applied as today was the last date for application. In Dubai, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah met Dravid and persuaded him to coach the Indian team after the T20 World Cup in the UAE. Thus the era of Ravi Shastri will come to an end and Dravid will take his place. He will remain the coach of the team till 2023. On the other hand, Paras Mhambrey has been selected as the bowling coach.
Dravid is currently the President of the National Cricket Academy based in Bengaluru. “Rahul Dravid will be the head coach of the Indian team,” a top Board of Control for Cricket in India official said after the IPL final. He will soon resign from the post of NCA chief.
Dravid was the coach of the Indian B team that toured Sri Lanka recently. At that time the main team was playing in England. The Indian team has to play three T20s and two Tests against New Zealand in the home season. The tour will take place immediately after the T20 World Cup.
