The MP thanked the officials of Reliance Jio for completing the work of the mobile tower on time and said that the tower would prove to be a pillar in the area.
Significantly, due to heavy snowfall and bad weather in this area, work is done only for six-seven months in a year. Apart from Damchok, 4G services have also been started in Ga Chushul, Nyoma Tharuk and Durbuk along the Ladakh border.
Reliance Jio has 168 mobile towers operational in Ladakh. Jio is the only telecom network operator in the Siachen base camp and Zanskar area. Interstate areas like Sanku, Taifsur, Shargol, Nubra, Khalsi, Kharu, Dras, Panamik are already connected to Jio network. Reliance Jio is also working on expanding the network to other remote areas here. Jio has been entrusted with the task of installing 62 towers under the USOF government, out of which 44 towers are functional. Jio has used three different fiber routes to strengthen the network in these extremely difficult areas.
The launch of Jio 4G network in Demchok is a boon for the people of the Union Territory and the tourism industry. The introduction of telecommunication services has raised hopes of significant changes in the lives of people living in these border areas in areas like health and education. 4G facility will prove to be important not only for the social status of the residents but also for the economic development as it will create earning opportunities for the local youth and businessmen.
