Sanju and Azhar blinked; Kerala wins big win over Himachal Pradesh

Delhi: Kerala won the Twenty20 tournament of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Captain Sanju Samson and opener Mohammad Azharuddin struck brilliantly to help Kerala beat Himachal Pradesh. Kerala reached the quarterfinals of the tournament with an eight-wicket win. Result: Himachal Pradesh – 145 for 6 in 20 overs Kerala: 147 for 2 in 19.3 overs.

Kerala captain Sanju Samson, who had won the throw in the previous quarter, decided on first place. Manukrishnan kept the captain’s hopes alive by beating opener Ankush Bains in the first over. Chopra and Raghav Dhawan also tried to hold on, but Kerala periodically took wickets to bind Himachal. Dhawan was Himachal’s top scorer with 65 runs. S Mithun took two wickets for Kerala.

In response, Rohan Kunnummal and Azharuddin gave Kerala a good start. Although Rohan was out with a score of 34, things got easier for Kerala when Sanju Samson, who finished behind, took over the skipper. Sanju was unbeaten on 52 of 39 balls with six fours and one six. Azharuddin was unbeaten on 60 of 57 balls with four fours and two sixes. Sachin Baby was unbeaten by two fours on 10 of 5 balls.
