Should Virat Kohli be in the T20 team? Virender Sehwag replied

  • Virender Sehwag said, the questions being raised about Kohli’s place are meaningless
  • Former opener Sehwag praised Virat in the shortest format of cricket
  • Former fast bowler Ashish Nehra also agreed with Virender Sehwag

game desk: Will Virat Kohli get a place in the T20 team if he is not the captain? This question is being asked on social media. However, in the eyes of former India opener Virender Sehwag, this question is meaningless. He said the question was not necessary. Virat Kohli played his last match as captain in T20 cricket on Monday. In this match of Super 12 of T20 World Cup 2021, Indian team defeated Namibia by 9 wickets.

In a conversation with Cricket Buzz, Sehwag praised Kohli in the shortest format of cricket. The 43-year-old Sehwag said Indian cricket is fortunate to have such talented young batsmen but none of them can replace a player of the size of Virat Kohli.

Sehwag said, ‘No matter how many young players come, Kohli cannot be anyone else. The way he has consistently performed well with this team, it is not fair to question his place in the T20 World Cup. He can play in T20 format as long as he wants.

Former fast bowler Ashish Nehra also agreed with Sehwag. Nehra said, ‘No one can give you the stability that Virat Kohli gives in batting. You can’t just have power-heaters in your batting. Your team should have the right mix of experience and young players.

Kohli was the Player of the Tournament in the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups. Virat Kohli is the world’s highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals. Kohli has scored 3227 runs in 87 innings of 95 matches at an average of 52.05. Its strike rate was also 137.91. Kohli has hit 29 half-centuries.

Kohli led the team in 50 matches as a captain. Out of them, India won a total of 32 (in 2 Super Overs). The Indian team has lost 16 matches during this period and the result of 2 has not come out. Praising Kohli for his stellar performance, Sehwag said, “Thank you Virat Kohli, you captained the Indian team in a wonderful way and gave us many memorable moments in T20 Internationals.” I pray if you keep scoring and winning matches for the country.
