T20 WC: Shakib’s slap, Bangladesh Super-12 reached by crushing PNG

Muscat Bangladesh cricket team entered the Super-12 stage of the T20 World Cup on Thursday on the basis of Shakib Al Hasan’s all-rounder performance. Bangladesh qualified for the Super-12 stage by defeating Papua New Guinea by 84 runs. Shakib took four wickets for nine runs in addition to 46 runs.

Bangladesh had set a target of 182 against Papua New Guinea, but the PNG team were bowled out for 97 runs in 19.3 overs. This was Bangladesh’s second consecutive win in the first round. Papua New Guinea are out of the tournament with three losses.

Bangladesh lost the first match. However, he has won two consecutive matches since his return. The team of Papua New Guinea, who came down to reach the difficult target, was never in the match. On 29, the team lost seven wickets.

The top seven batsmen of the PNG team could not even make double figures. But wicketkeepers Kiplin Doriga and Chad Soper put the team to shame. Both these batsmen could not save the team from defeat but took the score to a respectable position. Doriga scored an unbeaten 46 off 34 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes while Soper scored 11 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan’s bowling performance was the deadliest for Bangladesh. He bowled four overs in which he conceded just nine runs and took four early wickets. While Mohammad Saifuddin and Taskin Ahmed took two wickets each. Mehndi Hassan also got a breakthrough.

Earlier Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the team got off to a bad start. The team lost its first wicket on the second ball. The pavilion was assembled without opening the account of Naeem. Later, Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan took wickets and batted aggressively and scored runs quickly.

There was a half-century partnership between the two batsmen. Shakib scored 46 runs in 37 balls with the help of three sixes while Liton Das contributed 29 runs. Captain Mahmudullah was the highest run scorer for Bangladesh. He scored a strong half-century. He scored 50 runs in 28 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes. Afif Hussain contributed 21 and Saifuddin contributed 19 not out.
