Why Shreyas Iyer? This is the wisdom of Rahul Dravid; New projects in tests !!

Shreyas Iyer makes his test debut against New Zealand in Kanpur. Shreyas has been a consistent performance in Indian midfield in limited overs cricket for the past two years. He was absent from competitions for some time because of a shoulder injury that required surgery. India’s place in the T20 World Cup squad and the captain of the Delhi Capitals were lost at the time.

Now Shreyas is celebrating a nice comeback. The main reason for this is coach Rahul Dravid’s trust in Shreyas. Shreyas has a good record of playing top notch cricket through 2019. Shreyas has 4592 runs averaging 52.18. Shreyas was due to make his Test debut against Australia in 2017 in Dharamsala. It was a match that Virat Kohli did not contest.

But then captain Ajinkya Rahane decided to take on additional bowlers. Shreyas makes his debut four and a half years later when the same Rahane becomes captain. Rahul Dravid has coached Shreyas while playing for Delhi Capitals and the Indian and U19 teams. This belief has now paid off.

Dravid aims to develop Shreyas as a substitute in the aging Indian midfield. Although he relies on Hanuma Vihari, who has shown his courage in the tests, Dravid relies on Shreyas.
